Meeting by Zoom on June 28

Dear Thay, dear Sangha, dear friends,

If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can smile and blossom like a flower, and everyone in our family, our entire society, will benefit from our peace. — Thay

Please join the Rainbow Sangha this coming Sunday on Zoom from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

We are fortunate to have Vanessa leading on the topic of “Taking Refuge in the Present: Using Mindfulness to Cope with COVID19”. The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted all our lives and caused anxiety for many. Vanessa will talk about how to use our core practice of mindfulness of the present moment to maintain equanimity.

For information on how to join the Zoom meeting, please contact any member of the Sangha.

We will be making a decision week by week whether to meet by Zoom or in person, depending on such factors as the preferences of the leader, the weather, and the wishes of the Sangha. If you are on our mailing list we will keep you informed via these weekly e-mails.

Looking forward to seeing you there,
With metta,
Jon

In-person meeting at AZC June 21, with precautions

Dear Thay, dear Sangha, dear Friends,

If you love someone, the greatest gift you can give them is your presence. — Thay

Please join us this Sunday from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. for an in-person meeting outdoors on the grounds of the Albuquerque Zen Center (AZC), 2300 Garfield Ave. SE.

As antiviral precautions we will be wearing masks, maintaining distance, using hand sanitizer, and wiping down surfaces. We will have one bathroom available for use, with suitable precautions that will be described at the meeting.

We are fortunate to have Bryson leading us. There will be a 20-minute seated meditation, possibly some walking meditation, and she will give a dharma talk on Thay’s explanation of the First Mindfulness Training (reverence for life) from his book For a Future to be Possible. This will be followed by dharma sharing. I hope to see you there!

Upcoming Sangha meetings

Dear Sangha Members,

When we are mindful, deeply in touch with the present moment, our understanding of what is going on deepens, and we begin to be filled with acceptance, joy, peace and love. Thay

I hope everyone is healthy and doing well. Your Transformation Committee is in communication with the management at AZC and, while the Zendo is still closed, we now we have permission to meet outside on the grounds. As soon as we receive permission to also use the bathrooms, plus guidelines on precautions to use with them, we will have the ability to meet in person at AZC. Whenever we meet in person again we will observe appropriate social distancing and other precautions.

For this coming Sunday, June 14, we will meet by Zoom. After that we’ll reconsider the situation on a weekly basis.

If you’d like the Zoom link info to join us in an online meeting from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Sundays please contact any Sangha member.

AZC closed: Virtual Rainbow Sangha meetings available by Zoom

Dear Friends,

“The community is in you and you are in the community. You interpenetrate each other. That is why I emphasize sangha-building … It is by taking good care of your breath, of your body, of your feelings, that you can build a good community.” — Thay

In accordance with governmental guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19, the Albuquerque Zen Center is closed for meetings and the Rainbow Sangha is not meeting in person. We have arranged for virtual Rainbow Sangha meetings from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. each Sunday until in-person meetings can recommence.

This coming Sunday, March 29, Bee will be leading, and we’ll have extended dharma sharing. Please be ready to share a short poem, song, reading etc. You can also share your screen if you have a short .pdf document, audio, or video file to share. Plum Village recommends that for online meetings when we bow in for dharma sharing we say our name followed by “bowing in” and when done we say “bowing out.”

Here are some instructions for joining our virtual meeting. First, at any time on your computer, go to zoom.us and install the app. Or, on a smartphone or tablet, get the Zoom Cloud Meeting app. It’s free, and to join meetings it’s not necessary to register with Zoom.

A few minutes before the meeting, click the link previously provided to you for the meeting, or open the Zoom app and enter the meeting ID. Please feel free to contact us if you need to obtain the link or ID.

You will then be in the online meeting. You may then need to turn on your audio and video connections. During the meeting when you’re not sharing please mute your audio to eliminate distracting sounds while others share, then turn it on when you wish to share. The meeting will be open online about 15 minutes before 5 p.m. so please join us in a timely way before the meeting starts to avoid distractions after we begin.

This same link will be valid for each Sunday evening meeting going forward until our physical meeting room is available again.

We are using a paid subscription in Zoom, which means meetings will not be limited to 40 minutes and people can also call in using regular phones if desired. Jon will be the host for the Zoom meeting.

If you wish to join using a regular phone you can call any of the numbers below and enter the meeting ID.

Small Weekly Rainbow Sangha meetings continuing at Albuquerque Zen Center, with precautions

The Rainbow Sangha has voted to continue to meet on Sundays at 5:00 p.m., while taking prudent precautions against transmitting the coronavirus.

Anyone with symptoms of illness is asked to stay home. Hand sanitizer, masks, and gloves are available to anyone who wishes, we do not shake hands or hug, doorknobs and faucet handles are wiped with disinfectant before meetings, and we will not have tea. The meetings are also small (under 10 people), because many members have chosen to stay home, and we will maintain a small size.

You are welcome to join us if you wish, while observing these precautions. We will keep you posted on further developments.
