Sangha is the place where we support each other’s path in practicing the Five Mindfulness Trainings (or Precepts). We remind each other of the teachings of Zen Buddist Master Thich Nhat Hanh, or Thay (teacher in Vietnamese).
We start with a bell, sing the Evening Chant, and sit in meditation for about 10 minutes. Then one of us has prepared a short talk (10-20 min) on a particular subject. This often refers to Thay’s or a monastic’s dharma talk and includes some personal experience. Then we might do a walking meditation (5-10 min). The last half hour is open to dharma sharing from everyone.
We practice deep listening and do not generally offer feedback unless specifically asked for. We hold a safe and supportive space for each other to share our experiences, lessons learned, thoughts, anxieties, struggles, and ways of finding peace and joy in our everyday life. There is so much we can learn just from listening to each other.
We invite you to join us on Sunday evenings 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Albuquerque Zen Center, 2300 Garfield Ave. SE in Albuquerque. This is on the south side of Garfield, just east of the corner of Garfield with Yale Blvd. SE, about four long blocks south of the UNM campus. map
